Day 1 - Windows and Floors

Here is a shot of our studio looking towards
Lake Erie. You can see the historic Fairport
Harbor Lighthouse in the distance.
The charm of this small town, the lighthouse
and the historic brick building make a perfect
place to ignite imagination.

With only 6 and 1/2 weeks before we open our doors, we have lots of work to do. Here is what we did today:

My wife Carla worked hard taping all of the windows in the front to prepare them for staining. We also had to apply a thin coat of silicone to the outside of each pane.

Our daughter Alayna even helped out!

The floor in the studio area needs a lot of prep work. We are planning on using the existing plywood floor. First I had to use 1 lbs. of 2" wood screws on all of the edges to keep them down. I then used a belt sander with 50 grit paper to even all the edges. After vacuuming the dust I applied floor leveler to all of the cracks, screws, knots and imperfections. I will let it dry tonight and then look for places to touch up tomorrow.
